Gambling recovery · Veterans · First responders

Practical support for what gambling changes.

A professional profile, WGT referral gateway, and gathering place for veterans and first responders interested in the next dedicated cohort.

About the work

Recovery has to work in real life.

Reaching out for help with gambling or another addictive behavior can feel complicated, especially when it has affected money, relationships, identity, purpose, or trust. My approach is direct, respectful, and practical.

I want to understand what is happening, what has kept the cycle going, and what recovery needs to look like in your actual life. Effective treatment should respect the whole person, including their strengths, responsibilities, relationships, culture, and lived experience.

As a Marine Corps veteran, social worker, and registered addiction counselor, I have a particular interest in serving veterans, first responders, adults, and older adults affected by gambling and related addictions.

WGT Veterans and First Responders Program

Built from experience.
Led with purpose.

The Westside Gambling Treatment Veterans and First Responders Program adapts WGT's gambling treatment model for the realities facing veterans and first responders. Dan Field, LCSW, created the program model. Dario Grant leads its veteran-focused work.

The program addresses gambling, sports betting, online gaming, and compulsive stock or cryptocurrency trading through veteran-centered assessment, individual counseling, group work when available, financial literacy, relapse prevention, and recovery support.

Following assessment and treatment planning, the core seven-week model combines six hours of evening group sessions with one hour of individual counseling each week. Program schedules and cohort availability are determined by WGT.

Professor to supervisor

A professional relationship
since 2018.

Dario first met Dan Field in Spring 2018 while studying Substance Related and Behavioral Addictive Disorders at the University of Southern California. What began as a professor-student relationship developed into more than eight years of mentorship, professional collaboration, and clinical supervision.

Their work brings together Dan's extensive problem gambling treatment experience and Dario's Marine Corps background, clinical training, outreach relationships, and understanding of military culture.
